The red carpet has been changed quite a few times since Gary Cooper, Buster Keaton or Romy Schneider walked over it. However, the grand old lady of cinemas has lost none of her charm since opening in 1928. And that is why stars like Pierce Brosnan, Wim Wenders and Joachim Król still show up at the Lichtburg today for film premieres, galas and world premieres.
The legendary cinema seats 1,250 and is the largest in Germany. When it was being extensively renovated in the 1990s, there was a discussion about a new use for the building. As the Lichtburg also had many prominent advocates from the film world in addition to the numerous film enthusiasts in Essen, the listed cinema remains what it always was: a film diva.
